Pikeville College wins 85-82 U.Va.-Wise
Monday, January 4, 2010 at 4:00PM Eighth-ranked Pikeville College, after getting off to a slow start, hit 75 % or 15 of 20 in the second half and held on for an 85-82 win over the Highland Cavaliers of U.Va.-Wise Saturday at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
After trailing 31-29 at halftime, the Bears got hotter in the second half, having particular success from the line. The Bears shot only 31.8 percent in the first half, but managed to hit an impressive 75 percent (15-of-20) from the floor, hitting four of their five attemps from behind the arc.
From the foul line, the Bears went 22-of-31 (71 percent) which was actually down from their 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) in the first half.
The Bears will be back in action on Monday night, playing another member of the Appalachian Athletics Conference in Virginia Intermont. The women’s game begins at 5:30 with the men following.
