Head coach Matthew Mitchell and the University of Kentucky women's basketball team invites the Big Blue Nation to Memorial Coliseum tonight to help celebrate the Wildcats' first Southeastern Conference regular season championship title since 1982.  Admission is free and fans may enter through the Lexington Avenue side of the Coliseum. Doors open at 6 p.m. ET and the Wildcats are expected to arrive at approximately 7 p.m. ET.

The Wildcats, who have won at least a share of the SEC title, will have a net-cutting ceremony, sign autographs and Coach Mitchell will address the crowd. The 76-40 win over Mississippi State today in Starkville, Miss., gave the Cats the outright SEC title.

The Lexington Legends and Window World of Lexington are teaming up for a night of fun - including University of Kentucky basketball

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends and Window World of Lexington are teaming up for a night of fun - including University of Kentucky basketball - that will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The Legends' second annual Winter Bash is set for Saturday, February 11 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight in the Kentucky Ale Taproom at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The menu will include heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, sponsored by Kentucky Ale, which will offer beer and wine. No outside food or beverages will be permitted.

A silent auction will be held for a variety of items donated by the Legends and their corporate partners. All proceeds from ticket sales and the auction will go to St. Jude, the famed Memphis facility whose mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.

Television screens throughout the Kentucky Ale Taproom will allow attendees to follow the UK men's basketball team as the Wildcats take on Vanderbilt in Nashville beginning at 9 p.m.

"This will be a fun evening for a great cause," said Legends Corporate Sales Manager Jake Thayer, who is organizing the event. "We appreciate the partnership of Window World, and we're very pleased to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital."

Tickets to Winter Bash are available at a special discount rate of $40 per person, but only until February 1 when they will go up to the regular price of $80 per person.         LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A limited number tickets for University of Louisville's home men's basketball games in the KFC Yum! Center against BIG EAST Conference competition will be sold in groups of four beginning Dec. 21 at 9 a.m.

        The four-game ticket packages are $120 each and are located in the upper ends of the arena, a savings of $20 off the single-game ticket price.  The first group includes the Cardinals' league home games against Notre Dame (Jan. 7), Villanova (Jan. 25), Syracuse (Feb. 13) and the final home game of the season against USF (Feb. 29).  The second package contains home games against DePaul (Jan. 14), Rutgers (Feb. 4), Connecticut (Feb. 6) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 26).

        While the tickets are non-renewable for next season, patrons who purchase the ticket packages will have an opportunity to purchase season tickets in the KFC Yum! Center next year.

Kentucky women’s basketball is pleased to announce a “Dollar in December” ticket special for any of its three home basketball games in the month of December, including the Wildcats’ matchup vs. No. 6/7 Duke on Thursday in Rupp Arena at 6 p.m. ET.

No. 10/11 UK also will play host to Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Sunday, Dec. 11 (1 p.m. ET) and Samford on Wednesday, Dec. 21 (7 p.m. ET). Both games will be played in Memorial Coliseum.

In order to receive the $1 special, tickets must be purchased in advance. For Anthony Davis, basketball is all about being like Kevin. "Kevin Durant on offense, Kevin Garnett on defense," Davis says when asked to describe the game he's building. The Kentucky frosh, the top-rated prospect in his class, isn't being hyperbolic. An NBA Eastern Conference executive also brought up KG's name in describing the 6'10" forward, and the comparison didn't just end at their skill sets. "He has 'it,'" the exec says. "He has Garnett's demeanor. When you watch him, you know he's going to be special. He has a fluidity and grace that is unusual. He is probably the first pick in the draft." But that same exec also says it wouldn't surprise him if Davis were to spend another year at Kentucky, a la Jared Sullinger at Ohio State. Because as skilled as Davis is -- blocking shots with either hand, attacking the rim, nailing face-up jumpers -- he is obsessed with getting better. The Chicago native landed at Kentucky in part because of John Calipari's willingness to push him, and he's already trying to add a more refined post game to his repertoire. If that happens? The possibilities are downright scary.

Renovating Rupp Arena would cost less than half of what the city would spend to build a new arena

Renovating Rupp Arena would cost less than half of what the city would spend to build a new arena, and at the same time would include the priorities that the University of Kentucky says it wants in a basketball facility, according to a new feasibility study.

Renovation would cost between $110 million and $130 million, compared to $300 million to $325 million for a new arena, according to the technical study that looked at long-term needs for the downtown arena and adjacent Lexington Center.

Expanding the Lexington Center to add convention and exhibition space would cost $70 million, compared to $100 million to $130 million for a new convention center, according to the study.

"We needed to answer the important question of what is possible, both in terms of new construction and renovation. That's what this study has done," Brent Rice, chairman of the Arena, Arts & Entertainment Task Force wrote in a email he sent to task force members on Tuesday.

"Answering this question was essential for our on-going examination of options, and it was important for the community at large as well," Rice said.

The study, which will be discussed at a public forum Wednesday, does not recommend whether to renovate or replace either the arena or convention center.

Mayor Jim Gray said arena consultant Gary Bates has not yet had time to take the technical information, pull it together and make his recommendation to the task force. That will come in January.

"This is simply a piece of the puzzle, but having construction costs is a big piece of the puzzle," Gray said on Tuesday.  Read Full Article>

Kentucky Wildcats Could Lose Storied Rivalries With The SEC Shake Up

If the SEC opts to adopt an 18-game league schedule once Missouri and Texas A&M join the league, it will leave Kentucky with an unenviable scheduling dilemma.

Do the Wildcats absorb the revenue hit of playing one less home game per year? Or do they eliminate one of their annual non-conference rivalry games against Louisville, North Carolina or Indiana in favor of a cash-strapped mid-major that will play a guarantee game at Rupp Arena?

Coach John Calipari asked fans on his official website which annual non-conference rivalry they could live without, though it's his contention that such a move would be to prevent over-scheduling rather than to avoid a revenue loss. Seventy percent have voted to eliminate Indiana if there was no other choice, compared to 22 percent for North Carolina and eight percent for Louisville.

It would be a shame to see any of these three series disappear in favor of a league game against Texas A&M or Missouri, but it's understandable that Kentucky is considering this possibility.

In 2006, I was told Kentucky collects $450,000 per home game in ticket revenue alone, a number that has surely increased since then and doesn't even factor in money from parking, food and merchandise sales. Furthermore, between Kentucky's commitments to the SEC-Big East Challenge and the Champions Classic, Calipari makes a legit argument that future schedules could get daunting in a hurry.

There's no way Kentucky would be foolish enough to cancel its series with in-state foe Louisville because that rivalry may be college basketball's best aside from North Carolina and Duke. That leaves either the series with the Tar Heels that dates back to 2001 or the series with Indiana that goes back far longer.

Although the rivalry with North Carolina lacks the history of the other two, the Tar Heels' status as a perennial top five team makes them more valuable to Kentucky than rebuilding Indiana at this point. The best-case scenario would be for Kentucky to find a way to keep all three games going, but it's the matchup with the Hoosiers that appears to be the most likely casualty.

Kentucky is back at No. 1 in The Associated Press' college basketball poll for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

 Saint Louis is back in the Top 25 for the first time since 1993-94.

The Wildcats (6-0) replaced North Carolina, which had been No. 1 since the preseason poll, on Monday, receiving 46 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel. The Tar Heels (5-1) dropped to fifth following their 90-80 loss to UNLV in the championship game of the Las Vegas Invitational.

Ohio State (6-0) moved up from third to second and had 17 first-place votes, while Duke (7-0), which won the EA Sports Maui Invitational, jumped from sixth to third and had the other two No. 1 votes.

Tickets for the 2011 Coal Classic are on sale now.  Tickets are priced at $8 in advance and $10 day of game.  A special all-day ticket/wristband will be sold for $20 allowing guests to enter and exit the arena throughout the day to enjoy multiple games.  All seating is general admission.  Ticket prices include parking and facility fee
